Are We There Yet?: The Beginning of the Lasts

Today we said goodbye to new friends, our friends from First Baptist Church in Hampton, Arkansas. They braved the long trip south to teach first aid and share Bible stories and the Gospel. The endeavor was planned as a way of helping open up doors and build relationships in two communities: Juan Cachileo and Santa Julia.

It's ironic that, while preparations for these outreaches have kept us busy and very much "here," this marks the beginning of the "lasts" for us here in Chile. This is the last short term team we will work with before heading north.

That being said, we can confidently say this was a wonderful group. This week was marked by warm relationships, full days, lots of new first aid vocabulary, and lots of blessings.

Because many basic first aid items are much more expensive in Chile than in the U.S., the team filled up a lot of their suitcase space with bandaids, triple antibiotic cream, Tylenol, diaper rash cream, ace bandages, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and more. We put together over 150 first aid kits, including a Spanish New Testament in each kit.

They did a fabulous job incorporating stories from the Bible that went along with the first aid topics they were teaching.

We had a great turn out at every clinic we put on. Not only were the families appreciative of the gift of a first aid kit for their home, but several individuals are interested in participating in a home study where they can study the Bible and learn more about spiritual matters. New doors are now wide open for new ministry opportunities after this outreach.

They loved on kids a ton! That's Wade in the picture above, Anders' "twin." He entertained the young ones while their parents participated in the clinic. They also brought along Slip Discs, which are Frisbees that have the Gospel message printed on the bottom side. Wade shared the Gospel with all the children while at the same time teaching them a new game, frisbee.
